What's New for the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Among full-size SUVs, perhaps none come close to matching the Jeep Grand Cherokee in terms of off-road ability. And with the 2018 model year, the nameplate welcomes a new trim named Trackhawk, which is billed as the Grand Cherokee’s most powerful model yet: supported by a brand-new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 that generates 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to its powertrain, the Trackhawk can go from zero to 60 mph in a blisteringly-fast 3.5 seconds, and it can haul up to 7,200 lbs. Altogether the 2018 Grand Cherokee is split into 11 trims, which include the base Laredo level, the trail-optimized (and aptly-named) Trailhawk, and the sport-oriented SRT. Also, for the 2018 model year, the 7-inch touchscreen and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone-based infotainment control are standard on all trims, and the diesel-powered 3.0-liter V6 is yanked off as a possible engine choice.

The standard engine on the 2018 Grand Cherokee is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which generates 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Optional is the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, and exclusive to the SRT is the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine with 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Hitched to each engine is an 8-speed automatic transmission. On all trims, you can stick with the standard rear-wheel drivetrain for a more balanced weight distribution from front to back, or opt for a four-wheel drive system for enhanced traction on rocky terrain. As a full-size five-seater, the 2018 Grand Cherokee has two rows of seats and 105.4 cubic feet of passenger volume. Base-level comfort and convenience features on the vehicle include remote keyless entry, remote vehicle start, Bluetooth technology for hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, two USB ports and an auxiliary audio jack for connecting mobile devices, a one-year complimentary SiriusXM satellite radio subscription, and six-speaker audio that includes a 5-inch touchscreen and an SD flash memory card slot. Options or upper-level additions or enhancements include leather upholstery, front-seat power adjustability, a garage-door opener, a single-disc CD player, 8.4-inch touchscreen navigation, a rear DVD entertainment system, and auto-dimming on the rearview mirror. Restraint and cushioning in the event of an auto collision is provided by a driver’s knee airbag, dual front impact airbags, dual front seat-mounted side impact airbags, and two front and two rear roof-mounted side curtain airbags. Also present on the Grand Cherokee are electronic vehicle stability, all-wheel traction control, hill start assist and hill descent control, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes.
